How the sizing works

Five-step process to size battery kWh, DC current, phase RMS, and cable cross-section for an electric boat — from boat dimensions to a downloadable vendor-ready spec sheet.

  1. 1

    Enter boat basics

Enter waterline length, displacement, hull type (monohull or multihull), and drive type (shaft or saildrive). These set the hydrodynamic envelope used to estimate power demand.

  2. 2

    Choose target power and voltage

Pick a target cruise speed and continuous-power bucket. Choose a bus voltage window (48 V or 96 V are typical) — this drives DC current and cable cross-section downstream.

  3. 3

    Define range and runtime

Pick a range profile (cruising, daily sailing, or hybrid assist) and the runtime hours under power you want to plan for. The wizard derives kWh and Ah from runtime, depth of discharge, and reserve.

  4. 4

    Configure charging and cabling

Choose a charging source (shore AC, generator, solar, hydro), set charger kW, and specify cable run length and target voltage drop percentage. The wizard computes the required cable cross-section.

  5. 5

    Review the spec sheet

Review battery kWh, Ah, DC continuous and peak current, phase RMS, cable size, and charging time. Optionally download a vendor-ready PDF spec sheet to share with installers and suppliers.

About the configurator

Configurator questions

What do I need to know about my boat before starting?+
Waterline length, displacement, hull type (monohull or multihull), and drive type (shaft or saildrive). Everything else — target speed, runtime, charging source, cable run — you choose as you go, and each step shows a sensible default.
Is the configurator free?+
Yes. Running the wizard and seeing every result is free, with no signup or account. The only paid item is the optional downloadable PDF spec sheet (€29), which comes with a 30-day refund.
Where is my configuration stored?+
In your own browser. Your inputs are saved locally so you can come back to them, and the page URL encodes the current configuration so you can bookmark or share it. Nothing is sent to a server unless you buy the PDF.
Can I use the results to order components?+
Use them as the starting specification you hand to motor, battery, and installer suppliers. The figures are planning estimates from your inputs — confirm final ratings against the manufacturer datasheets and with your installer before ordering.
